Opening of one branch of the Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho underpass

On the morning of October 4th, the Ho Chi Minh City Management Board for Traffic Works Construction Investment Projects (Traffic Board) organized the opening of the HC2 branch of the Nguyen Van Linh underpass, heading from District 7 to Binh Chanh County, helping to reduce traffic pressure in the area.

The Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho intersection underpass project began in April 2020, with a total investment of VND 830 billion (phase 1). The project includes two branches, HC1 and HC2, on each side of Nguyen Van Linh Parkway, each tunnel being 456 meters long, with a cross-section of 3 lanes, and a speed limit of 60 km/h. The project also involves improving the median strip area between Nguyen Van Linh Parkway an Nguyen Huu Tho Street to arrange waiting lanes, left-turn lanes, and U-turn lanes to increase the intersection’s traffic capacity.

Mr. Nguyễn Thanh Tuấn, Head of Road Project Management Unit 4 (Traffic Board), stated: “The HC2 underpass, part of the Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho intersection project, is a crucial traffic hub connecting major transport routes and urban areas from the center to the south and vice versa”.

After the opening, heavy trucks will be allowed to use the tunnel with three one-way lanes, heading from Tan Thuan to Binh Chanh. Additionally, the Traffic Board will strive to open the HC1 underpass in the opposite direction by the end of this year, completing both branches of this key intersection.
